Hair for Care 2010

This year is the third year in a row the EUS has hosted Hair for Care on campus. Each year the event is a bit different, but each year results in a large donation being made to the BC Cancer Foundation.

The pledge period is starting now for people to gather donations. The head shave will the be hosted on March 26th.  These pledge forms can be found here.

DATE: March 26th, 2010

TIME: 1:30PM – 3:30PM

LOCATION: Courtyard at UBC Okanagan

WHO: Organized by engineers on campus, all are welcome and encouraged to participate – we will be accepting donations for the BC Cancer Foundation.

Pi Throw 2010

“Officially”, Pi Day occurs each year on March 14th (or 3.14). Over the past two years, the EUS has hosted Pi Day either on the day itself or as close to the day as possible. Each year, a few hundred dollars is donated to the Kelowna Community Food Bank from this event.

Pi’s can be purchased for a minimum donation of $5.00 for a specific target on campus on March 15th. EUS Volunteers will go around to “deliver” these pi’s to the lucky recipient, and present them with the option of being pi’d in the face, paying money to redirect this pi to a third party, or pay to neutralize it.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help advertise this event and to help Pi people on the day of. Send an email to president@ubcoengineers.com if you’re interested in either of these opportunities!

Partial proceeds of this event will go towards the Kelowna Community Food Bank through Campus Life’s “Ten Thousand Tin Night” campaign.

Engineering and People

Engineering and people is a topic not really taught at school. Tom Tasaka, project director at SNC-Lavalin, will help prepare us for the engineering environment that we are soon diving into by sharing his personal experiences and valuable “lessons learned”. Hopefully he will save us some of the trouble of learning the hard way!

Join us for a short one hour talk on Thursday, February 25th at 4:00pm in ART 366.

Christmas Fundraising

ChristmasOver the final weeks of this semester, the EUS will be hosting a few fundraising events to help raise money for the Kelowna Community Food Bank this year.  This money will go towards purchasing food and toys for needy families this winter season.

A barbecue will be held on Wednesday, December 2nd from 12:00PM – 1:30PM.  Hotdogs and drinks will be available by donation, with 50% proceeds going to the food bank and 50% going back to your EUS.

On Friday, December 4th, the EUS will be holding their annual Christmas Carolling event.  If you are interested in coming out, a map will be provided at the start of the week so you can ensure you’ll find the cheerful, boisterous group on campus.  All money raised from this event will be donated to the Kelowna Community Food Bank.  All songs for carolling will be provided in a booklet during the event, and feature some rather geeky renditions of classic songs.  Don’t forget to bring your cheer!

If you would prefer to bring in an unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item for donation, these will also be accepted at the BBQs or anytime over the next few weeks.

Hope to see you out for a few of these events before the end of the semester, and before exams start!

Cheers!
